Doula this. Doula that. Doula. Doula. Doula. Doula.

Doula it's just a fun word to say.  Try it.... doo-luh. It's fun isn't it?
No? Okay then I must be special.
Well now that that's out of the way it's time to get to the real reason I'm writing this post....
I've decided to become a certified doula!
Woah! Hold on a minute. WHAT?
Yeah that's right, I'm going to start training through Childbirth International to get my certification in Birth Doula-ing.
Doula-ing. Is that a word? Hmmm
During my pregnancy I researched like crazy.  And one of those things I researched was doulas.
They enticed me.  However money didn't allow me to have one.
Sad-face :(
Que fascination and tons more research.
Now I want to provide doula services to EVERY expecting mom.
Whether she be rich or poor
                                  young or old
                                               First-time mom or tenth-time mom

"Why don't you go do THAT in the bathroom?"

In the last few weeks nursing in public has been shoved into the spotlight.  Nurse-ins have been happening all over the world to draw attention to laws and ordinances that give mothers the right to feed their babies in any place, public or private.
In the last 3 weeks their have been nurse-ins held at Hollister stores around the world after Brittany Warfield was yelled at my a local Hollisters manager to leave the store simply because she was feeding her child.  This sparked outrage and women around the world immediately planned a nurse-in.  Hollister has yet to make any apology.  And then that very same day of the nurse-in Jessica from The Leaky B@@b was enjoying lunch in a Cafe at The Pink Flamingo hotel when a waitress asked her to either cover or leave.  Jessica proceeded to laugh and inform the lady of her rights (those rights can be found here).    The difference here though is that the manager of the cafe promptly apologized to Jessica, both publically and privately.  And finally just today a nurse-in was held out side a TV station in Australia after one of the reporters made a comment that women should be "classy" and "discreet" when breastfeeding in public on Friday in response to the outrage of a women feeding her child by the side of a public pool.
But now these nurse-ins are going virtual and tomorrow Tuesday, January 22, 2013 Birth Without Fear is holding a photo-in on Facebook.  This is in response to Facebook removing this image:
from their page and one others and then banning them from the social networking website for 24 hours.  By doing this Facebook went back on their policy that pictures of mothers breastfeeding their children was allowed.
So tomorrow to show Facebook that nursing mothers will not be stopped from showing the world their beautiful, natural pictures there will be a photo-in.  Everyone who is or has nursed is asked to change their profile picture to one of them feeding or use 1 or the 3 Birth Without Fear has posted on their facebook page.  But if your not a nursing mother and you still want to show support you may again use one of the above mentioned pictures of find one by yourself.
I encourage all of you to particiapate.  Breastfeeding is a natural thing and we as women have the right to do it anywhere and at anytime.

Why are pictures like these:

acceptable in today's society but a mother feeding her child (whether it be in public or in a picture) not?
That just baffles me.

Munchkin Meals Monday! Breakfast for supper!

Today we had a backwards day and had breakfast for supper.  It consisted of Pancakes, pork sausage patties, shredded potato hashbrowns and fried eggs.  And it was Phia's first time ever having pancakes and I would have to say she LOVED them.  She wasn't too sure about the hashbrowns as she fed them to the dogs.
I'd love to say that I have an amazing recipe for these pancakes but I can't.  Because truthfully the pancakes were made from a box of pancake mix.  And the hashbrowns weren't homemade either.  They were just some generic, store brand that came in a bag.  Tonight was just an all around lazy night.

And then for lunch we had some yummy fried rice!

Which she also seemed to enjoy :)
And our puppies where hoping she'd share.

Again I don't have a recipe though because it was just some minute rice that I cooked in the microwave and then added a pack of fried rice seasoning mix.

Next weeks Mmm will be better. I promise.

Egg-free. Gluten-Free. Sugar-Free. Homemade baby cookies/bars

I've been looking for some great cookie/bar recipes that are 8-month old baby friendly.  And let me tell you that isn't such an easy task.  At least when it comes to ones that are sugar-free.  Why do people feel the need to add sugar to baby food?! It just baffles me.
So anyways I sat down today and made my own recipe up and by the way Phia ate them I'm saying they turned out great. And these are perfect for the families who are baby-led weaning.

The Recipe:

Oven pre-heated to 350 F
Yeilds about 9- 2" logs

1/2 C Rice Flour
1/2 C ground oatmeal (I used organic baby oatmeal but you could just grind some quick oats up in a blender)
*1/2 C Pear juice or juice of choice
*1/2 C water
Dash of Cinnamon

Mix all the ingredients together and cut/form into your desired shape (I did logs as they are easier for Phia to hold on to).  Bake for 20-30 minutes at 350 F.  These do stay chewy even after cooling!

NOTE- The dough is stickier than regular cookie dough

*You could use 1 C of all juice or 1 C of all water if your prefer

Munchkin Meals Monday: Great Grandma's Tomato Slop

As I mentioned in my earlier post today I am starting a weekly series called Munchkin Meals Monday (AKA Mmm).  Here at "our" house we are in full out BLW mode and Phia is loving every bit (bite?) of it.  She loves exploring new textures/flavors and I love watching her do so.  So starting today every monday night at around 7:00 PM I will post what Phia ate for supper, lunch, breakfast, or maybe a combo along with the recipe if applicable.

With out further ado I present to you Phia eating my Great Grandma's Tomato Slop (It taste better than it sounds, I promise):

She loved it and ate almost everything that was on the tray!
She loved the noodles more than anything else!

Tomato Slop Recipe

This is almost like a goulash but with out the seasonings... my family likes plain things for some reason....
Ingredients:
1 Pound ground beef
1 Package (16 oz) Egg Noodles
1/2 package frozen corn
1/2 Package frozen peas
2-3 cans tomato soup (12 oz)
Pre-heated oven 350° F

Directions:
  1. Fry the ground beef and drain/rinse the excess grease off of it.  Layer it in the bottom of a large casserole dish.
  2. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add noodles.
  3. Cook noodles to desired done-ness (that's a new word, coined by me). Drain and layer on top of the ground beef.
  4. Next layer the corn and the peas on top.  Pour the tomato soup over the casserole. You can mix this all together if you'd like.
  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes at 350° F or until warmed through.

8 Week "Get Healthy" Challenge hosted by Six Sister's Stuff

Sorry for the late notice but I just heard of this myself.  But the wonderful ladies over at Six Sister's Stuff are hosting an 8 week "Get Healthy" Challenge and it starts TODAY! This is a perfect way to lose that pregnancy weight that I am still carrying around almost 8 months postpartum (pp)!

Last night was the first weigh in but since I don't own a scale (I really need to get one of those), I weighed myself first thing this morning at a friends.  Then today the actual challenge starts.  If you click on the second link it will take you to a blog post by Six Sister's where there are some "rules" posted along with a printable Challenge calender that has, well, challenges that you can do every day and earn points along with a food journal/log.

I'm personally going to start this by myself this week.  BUT if there is any one interested in doing this along with me I will re-start next Monday and depending on the number of people who join I will pick a prize that I will send out to the person with the most points at the end of the 8 weeks.  Anyone in? Let me know!

And because I need the motivation I am going to tell you guys what I weighed in at this morning..... 169.8 pounds.  At the end of the 8 weeks I would like to be down to my pre-pregnancy weight of 155 pounds or even less.

I can do this. I can do this. I can do this!

Peace <3

P.S. This week I am going to start a weekly special called Munchkin Meals Monday where I will post something that little Phia ate.  Now that we are mainly in full swing BLW mode I am crazy about trying new recipes that we can eat together as a family.  I'm not sure what I am going to make tonight but expect a post up around 7:30 PM CST!
